causes of baldnessThe hormone testosterone indirectly can be blamed as one of the major causes of baldness. As it is an androgen hormone, it means it is essential for healthy development of the body and maintenance of the secondary sexual differences between men and women. So how can it be one of the causes of baldness? Testosterone is converted by an enzyme ( 5-alpha reductase) to form dihytestosterone or DHT. This conversion occurs in peripheral tissues and results in higher levels of DHT in the scalp and in the blood, and it is DHT that is thought to be one of the major causes of baldness. From puberty onwards, androgens interact with the genetically determined androgen-sensitive hair follicles, resulting in a sequence of events, all linked to the causes of baldness. This process includes gradual miniaturisation of the hair follicles, alteration of the hair growth cycle and eventually results in small thin hair follicles, which can be one of the causes of baldness. There are many myths associated with the causes of baldness which include: Stress - although it is unclear whether stress of severe life events can be blamed, it is very rare that it can be associated with it. Bad circulation - patients with poor circulation do not appear to be any more likely to suffer from alopecia than the rest of the population, but it regularly blamed as one of the causes of baldness. Tight fitting hats and wigs - often thought to be one of the causes of baldness, but in truth this is only in a very small minority of people. Dirty Hair - to be listed as one of the causes of baldness is simply not true! | causes of baldness
